My young hawthorn tree produced its first harvest of berries this last fall and I was so happy to finally be able to gather them! Being a gardener has taught me patience and that its reward brings such delight.

I have two hawthorn trees that came from Richo at @strictlymedicinalseeds in my garden right now. Both were very small when I planted them and one even came from California with me in a clay pot that used to live on the tiny balcony of our third floor studio apartment!

If you don’t know hawthorn yet, I think of her as the quintessential cardiovascular herb. The berries, leaves and flowers are all useful in the herbal apothecary. Its long, narrow thorns were once used as sewing needles and hawthorn is most commonly taken as a cardiovascular tonic via tinctures, teas and solid extracts.
