Book Review: Firelight by Sophie Jordan
Rating: 3 stars of 5
My first thought as I was reading Firelight was that it reads like a middle grade or young adult novel. Our local Barnes had it shelved in adult fantasy next to the author’s newly published novel, A Fire in the Sky, so if you’re expecting it to read as an adult novel, you might find the protagonist’s age (16) to be a surprise.
The overarching consensus in my book club (this was our October pick) was that the book left us all with a lot of questions. It is the first book in a series, so perhaps those questions will be answered in later books.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad read, but it also did not leave me itching to read the next one in the series. I rarely read YA because I don’t usually enjoy it, but if dragon shifter YA is your thing, you might find it enjoyable.
